Happy (belated) new year, and I hope your 2016 is off to a good start!
While January can be a bit of a letdown after the excitement and stress of the holidays, I like to think of it as a time of renewal and starting fresh. If one of your resolutions for this year is to take part in more professional development, then here are some resources to help you.
Teaching Tolerance has several webinars this month, and both look intriguing, helpful, and timely.
- Prejudice Reduction and Collective Action: Integrating the Anti-bias Framework into All Disciplines - Tuesday, January 12 at 5:30 EST.
- Gender Savvy: Creating an Inclusive School Climate - Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 5:30 EST.
As usual, edWeb.net has a lot of great offerings for this month, with topics ranging from differentiation to classroom tools to character education. Because of the focus of one of the classes I'm teaching this semester (literacy, differentiation, and classroom management), I wanted to highlight two webinars:
- Differentiating Performance Tasks for All Students - Tuesday, January 12 at 3:00 EST.
- Ensuring Success for All: Strategies for Bringing Out the Best in Students in Poverty and Students who Struggle with Language and Learning - Monday, January 18 at 4:00 EST.
#nctechat will be on Sunday, January 17 at 8:00 pm EST. This month's topic is "Beyond the Screen: Multimedia in the Classroom."
Education Week has several upcoming webinars, including one entitled "Closing the Factory: Productive Struggle and the New Math Model" (January 26 at 2:00 EST) and another math-related one entitled "Using Dynamic Assessment to Inform Math Lessons" (January 27 at 2:00 EST).
Are you planning on attending any of these, or do you have other suggestions? Please feel free to share in the comments section!
